Role of Nurses in Preparing Parents to Teach Activities of Daily Living Skills for Children with Autism Spectrum Disorder

Introduction: Preparing parents to teach activities of daily living skills to children with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) is another significant role of nurses in providing care and enabling them to live with their families and communities.
Objective: To present the concept and role of nurses in caring for patients, particularly young children with ASD, by preparing their parents to teach activities of daily living skills to these children.
Key issues: Nurses play a crucial role in providing guidance and support to parents of young children with autism spectrum disorder. The nurses’ responsibilities include training parents about effective strategies to teach and reinforce essential activities of daily living skills for children with autism.
Implications: The concept and role of nurses in caring for this group of children through parental training to teach activities of daily living skills can be applied to caring for other groups of children with similar skill deficits in their daily activities.
