This descriptive research aimed to investigate the relationships between health perception, illness duration, self-management knowledge, perceived self-efficacy, and social support among patients with chronic kidney disease stage 1-3. Ninety-six chronic kidney disease stage 1-3 patients were recruited from a chronic kidney outpatient department of Trat hospital using proportionate-stratified-simple random sampling method (Sampling without replacement). Data were analyzed using the Pearson’s product moment correlation coefficient.
The results revealed that the participants had a self-management behavior at a low level. Health perception, perceived self-efficacy, and social support were significantly related to self-management behavior at a moderate level (r = .406, r = .316, r = .498, respectively, p < .05). Illness duration, and self-management knowledge were not related to self-management behavior.
The results of the study suggest that nurses and health care providers should encourage the chronic kidney disease stage 1-3 patients to perceived health status, self-efficacy and social support for improving their ability of self-management.
