THE ROLES OF HUSBANDS IN TAKING CARE OF WIFE DURING LABOR

During labor period, women experience drastic changes due to physical and mental responses to labor process with uterine contraction leading to pain and anxiety for safety of maternal and newborn. Women in labor need helps and supports from husband and family to encourage them while proceed through labor, including holding hands, massage, and other caring actions. Besides of nurses, husband plays a significant role to reduce anxiety and accompany during labor experience and also to provide close cares. This paper aims to describe roles of husband as: 1) a coach, 2) a team member and supporter, and 3) an emotional support during labor. Benefits of taking these roles will help promote wife’s feelings for loveliness, togetherness, and warm resulting in shorter delivery time, safety, and smooth labor. The wife’s satisfaction, and pride of husband in their roles will increase a strong bond among couples and newborn baby.
