EFFECTS OF A SEXUAL HEALTH PROMOTION PROGRAM ON PREGNANCY PREVENTION OF TEENAGE IN SARABURI MUNICIPAL

Abstract

Teenage pregnancy is an important problem at present, the aim of this study was to evaluate the effectiveness of the sexual health promotion program for improving knowledge, attitude, and intention to prevent pregnancy in teenagers. The research design is a one group quasi-experimental with four repeated measures at pretest, posttest, 1 month, and 2 month. The convenient samples of 79 eighth grade students were recruited from six schools under Saraburi municipal in 2017 academic year. The program was developed based on experiential learning framework comprised of real practice, refection, analytical thinking, knowledge application, and recreation activities for learning motivation. The duration to complete all activities in the program was two days. Results at post intervention showed significantly increasing mean scores of knowledge and attitude towards pregnancy prevention at moder­ate level, (p < .01) whereas, mean score of intention to prevent pregnancy was at high level but not significantly increased than pretest. At 1 month and 2 month follow up found significant higher mean scores of knowledge and attitude towards pregnancy prevention than at pretest (p < .01). In conclusion, the sexual health promotion program in this study is effective for enhancing knowledge and attitude towards pregnancy prevention among early teenagers.
