The purpose of this study was to explore opinions on disaster nursing competencies among nurses
working in Health Service Region 11 and to compare the opinions on disaster nursing competencies by age, education level, working experience, and work place. The sample consisted of 400 nurses from seven provinces under the Health Service Area 11 including Chumphon, Ranong, Krabi, Phuket, Phang-nga, Suratthani, and Nakhon Si Thammarat. The sample was recruited using stratified random sampling and simple random sampling. The tool of this study was the questionnaire developed by the researcher based on disaster nursing competencies of the International Council of Nurses Framework and it was approved by 5 experts. The Cronbach’s coefficient was 0.87. The data were analyzed by mean, standard deviation, t-test and One way ANOVA. The findings were as follows; 1. The overall scores of opinions regarding disaster nurse competencies among nurses in Health Service Region 11 were at high. The scores of all 4 domains including Prevention/mitigation, Preparedness, Responsiveness, and Recovery/rehabilitation competencies were at high level. 2. Nurses in Health Service Region 11 with different in age have different opinions regarding disaster
nurse competencies. On the other hand, those who had differences in educational level, working
experience, and work place had similar opinions on disaster nurse competencies. The results can be applied for arranging a training course of disaster management for nurses based on these disaster nurse competencies to help nurses work effectively when disaster occurs.
