Physical Properties of Herbal Tablets (Jit Tra Rom Recipe Prepared by Wet Granulation Method)
Main Article Content
Abstract
The aim of this study was to develop the formulation and evaluate the physical properties of herbal tablets (Jit Tra Rom recipe) that were prepared by the wet granulation method. Five parameters of physical properties were investigated: weight variation, friability, thickness, hardness, and disintegration time. Seven formulas of the herbal tablets were formulated. Each formula consisted of 500 milligrams of herbal powder and 150 milligrams of excipients as well as 1% or 3% of binder (povidone K30), 3% or 5% of disintegrant (sodium starch glycolate, croscarmellose sodium, or crospovidone), 1% of glidant (colloidal silicon dioxide), 1% of lubricant (magnesium stearate), and avicel PH 102 as a tablet diluent. All the herbal formulas had a low weight variation and low friability of 0.29–0.99% and 0.06–0.15%, respectively. They had 6.36–6.63 millimeters of thickness and 4.36–6.58 kiloponds of hardness. All 7 herbal tablets fully disintegrated within 12 minutes, 4 of which disintegrated within 5 minutes and 2 revealed a fast disintegrating property. Therefore, all the herbal tablets met the criteria of the United State Pharmacopoeia and the British Pharmacopoeia.
