Abstract
Objective :
To establish the reliability and validity of Weiss Functional Impairment Rating Scale (WFIRS) -Thai version in children and adolescents with attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD).Method :
The authors had translated WFIRS which is functional impairment assessment for ADHD from English version to Thai version. The content validity of the WFIRS-Thai version was verified using content validity index (CVI). To assess participants’ understanding of the WFIRS-Thai version, focus groups had been conducted. Back translation was also performed to ensure that the meaning of all items in the translated WFIRS-Thai version are similar to those of the original version. The translated WFIRS-Thai version was finally approved by the copyright owner of the original WFIRS. The authors evaluated the stability of WFIRS-Thai version by assessing test-retest reliability determined by Pearson’s correlation coefficient (r). Internal consistency of WFIRS-Thai version was evaluated by measuring Cronbach’s alpha and intraclass correlation coefficient (ICC).Result : 1
37 ADHD patients and 143 care-givers participated in this study. CVI of both self-report (WFIRS-S) and the parent-report (WFIRS-P) have been verified with the average score of 0.96-0.99. The Cronbach’s alpha in all domains was 0.77 to 0.99. The test-retest reliability (r) of WFIRS-S and WFIRS-P were 0.68 (p = 0.003) and 0.88 (p = 0.01), respectively.Conclusions :
The Weiss Functional Impairment Rating Scale (WFIRS)-Thai version in children and adolescents with ADHD has both good reliability and validity. It is useful in assessment and monitoring of the functional impairment in children and adolescents with ADHD.Article Details
