Managing Nursing Care Administration of COVID-19 Patient at Surin Hospital

This mixed methods research aimed to (1) study the situation of nursing service management of Covid-19 patients, Surin Hospital, (2) evaluate the management of nursing services, and (3) develop nursing service management guidelines to support emerging and re-emerging diseases. There were 3 phases: (1) study the situation based on in-depth interviews and focus groups with medical and nursing executives, (2) evaluate the managing results using questionnaires on opinions and satisfaction of personnel caring for the COVID-19 patients and patients’ satisfaction, (3) develop nursing service management guidelines to support emerging and re-emerging diseases and tabletop trials. Qualitative and quantitative data were analyzed using the conceptual framework of 6 pillars of health systems (6 BB) and CIPP model.
The results of the phase 1 found that service work was the most important part, consisting of organizing adequate manpower to carry out the work, using information systems to store data that could increase or decrease the appropriate service, availability of the medical equipment, having an adequate budget and received support from the private sector, including set priority on personnel, providing moral and encouragement of their works. The results of phase 2 revealed that the overall assessment of nursing service management was at a high level (Mean 3.76, SD 0.87), the personnel were satisfied at a high level (Mean 3.68, SD 0.76), and the patients were satisfied at the highest level (Mean 4.63, SD 0.52). The results of phase 3 found that nursing service management guidelines to support emerging and re-emerging diseases consisted of 1) Service Delivery 2) Health Workforce 3) Information System 4) Medical Products, Vaccines & Technologies 5) Financing 6) Leadership/Governance
