Effect of positive psychology and mental health literacy to mental self health care ability of people in Thakam sub- district, Bang Pakong district, Chachoengsao province

Abstract

This descriptive study aimed to study influence of positive psychology and mental health literacy to mental health self- care ability of people in thakam sub- district, Bang Pakong, Chachoengsao Province. A sample of 350 people aged over 20 years at Thakam sub-district was recruited using proportional simple random sampling method calculated for each village. the research tools included: 1) questionnaires on positive psychological aspects and mental health literacy, 2) a measurement of mental health self-care ability. Content validity of the tools was evaluated by 3 experts, yielding a value of IOC 0.83, 1.00, and 0.80, respectively. Reliability of the tools were .79, .81, and .88, respectively. Data were analyzed using percentage, mean, correlation, and multiple regressions.


The results indicated that the average score of mental health self-care ability and positive psychological aspects of the people in Thakam sub-district were quite high.  The average score of mental health literacy was at a moderate level. Both positive psychological aspects and mental health literacy could significantly predict the people’s mental health self-care ability at 39.72%. Therefore, it will be worth if the people are encouraged to foster their mental health literacy. The people are also inspired to retain and enhance their positive psychological aspects, in which consisted of optimism, hope, perceived self-efficacy, resilience of mind, and good attitude to health. Thus, the people will have the ability to take better care of their mental health and could reduce psychological difficulties occurring in the future.
