The purposes of this cross-sectional descriptive study were to investigate: 1) the levels of preventive behavior among village health volunteers (VHV); and 2) factors associated with preventive behavior in Covid-19 among village health volunteers. The sample was 317 village health volunteers working in Khuan Khanun rural district of Phatthalung Province. They were randomly selected with stratified sampling method. The data were collected using a questionnaire that was validated by three experts, yielding a content validity between 0.66-1.00. The reliabilities with Cronbach’s alpha coefficients for attitude, perception, sufficiency resources, receiving health information, skill of using resources, and preventive behavior of in Covid-19 were assessed, yielding values of .73, .79, .80, .77, .76 and .73, respectively. The reliability of knowledge, tested with Kuder-Richardson-20, was measured at 0.71. The data were analyzed using descriptive statistics (frequency, percent, mean and standard deviation), as well as multiple logistic regression.
Results showed that the preventive behavior in Covid-19 among the village health volunteers was at a moderate level (M = 2.01, SD. = 0.57) at 67.80 percent. Factors such as gender (AOR = 2.52, 95%CI: 1.04-6.12), sufficiency of resources (AOR = 2.76, 95%CI: 1.54-4.97), and receiving health information on Covid-19 (AOR = 0.26, 95%CI: 0.13-0.36) were significantly associated with preventive behavior among village health volunteers at the p <0.05 level
Therefore, it seems fundamental that resources and health information related Covid-19 prevention be provided to village health volunteers, and this, both for their self-prevention against Covid-19 infection, and to communicate properly the preventive information to the people in the community.
