Abstract

Board games are a form of learning activity that is currently engaging and fun. This research and development aimed to develop a board game for learning Thai traditional massage signal points by playing. The study had 3 phases. Phase 1 consisted of a study of situations and problems with learning about Thai traditional massage signal points.  Instrument was a discussion group with 8 students, followed by an interview with 5 instructors. Phase 2 was to develop a board game for learning the signal points of traditional Thai massage. The Thai traditional massage learning game board consisted of game discs, question cards, healing cards, knowledge scripture, textbooks, healing cards, walking pieces, houses, dice and a game  playing manual. The learning game can be played by 4 to 8 players. It takes a period of 30-45 minutes to play. Its quality was verified by qualified experts, then experimented with a group of 30 people. Phase 3 consisted in assessing the effectiveness of such a board game on learning massage signal points. There was an experimental group of 30 students for this quasi-experimental study. The data collection tools were the group discussion questions, the interviews, the board game itself, board game quality assessments, knowledge quizzes and satisfaction assessments. Research was conducted from June to September 2020. Data were analyzed by content analysis, frequency distribution statistics, percentage, mean, standard deviation and paired t-test statistics.

The results showed the following. After playing the board game, the sample group of students had a knowledge significantly higher than before playing the board game (p<0.01). Players were satisfied with the board game at the highest level (mean=4.65, SD=0.51).

Therefore, this Thai traditional massage learning board game can increase the knowledge of the signal points among Thai Traditional Medicine students. Therefore, it may be used in the teaching and learning process. It is a media in the classroom and it can also be a self-learning medium outside the classroom.
