This quasi-experimental study aimed to compare the effect of a Thai herbal compress with nano fabrics on breast engorgement pain and milk ejection among postpartum mothers. The sample consisted of 50 mothers who were receiving postpartum care at a tertiary care hospital for a period of 48 hours. The control group (n=25) received standard care, while the experimental group (n=25) received herbal compression. The research instruments consisted of 1) a Thai herbal compress with nano fabrics, and 2) the data correcting instruments (a personal data form, numeric rating scales, a six-point breast engorgement scale, and a milk injection assessment. The data were analyzed by using software with percentage, average, frequency, and standard deviation. Independent t-test and paired t-test were used for the hypotheses.
The results of the study revealed that mothers who received herbal compress had a better mean score for pain than those in the control group (3.36 and 6.00), as well as a better mean score for breast engorgement (2.00 and 3.44), and a better mean score for milk injection (4.56 and 2.00). It was concluded that the Thai herbal compress with nano fabrics tended to reduce pain, reduce breast engorgement, and increase milk ejection performance, with a statistical significance (p<.001).
