ABSTRACT
Family caregivers are essential resources in the long-term care system for stroke patients. This predictive correlational research aimed to determine factors influencing the positive aspect of caregiving among stroke family caregivers. A multi-stage cluster random sampling was used to recruit 120 participants of family caregivers of stroke patients in Saraburi province. Research instruments were interview questions including social networks, perceived social support, perceived caregiving burden, perceived self-efficacy, enrichment events in daily life, and positive aspects of caregiving. Their reliabilities were .94, .94, .94, .94, .80, and .91 respectively. Descriptive statistics and stepwise multiple regression analysis were used to analyze the data.
The results revealed that the positive aspect of caregiving among stroke family caregivers was at a high level. The most three items of the positive aspects were feeling of good about myself to provide care for love one, feeling of more useful, and feeling of appreciated from others. The predictor model with enrichment events in daily life, perceived self-efficacy, perceived health status, and perceived caregiving burden was able to count for 49.1 percent of variance (R2 = .491, F = 27.700, p < .001) of the positive aspect of caregiving among stroke family caregivers. These findings suggested that community nurse practitioners and related health care personnel should promote activities focusing on enrichment events in daily life, improving perceived self-efficacy, increasing perceived health status, and decreasing perceived caregiving burden, in order to enhance the positive aspects of caregiving.
