Abstract

ABSTRACT

          Critical thinking is the cognitive process including activity of analytical thinking, synthesizing, evaluating and gathering information to reason the capacity for rational decision, or think logically. The changes in socioeconomic and medical technology require nurses to develop critical thinking skills more than in the past. Critical thinking skills are very important in the field of nursing for decision-making regarding caring. However these types of skills are important not only for clinical care, but also for making policy decision, in administration, effective workplace, research utilization and using evidence based practice. Nurses who are critical thinkers should have 7 abilities. These abilities are able to set main point, information gathering, reliability of data, system data, hypothesis, and evaluating the conclusion. Because of critical thinking is important in nursing. The schools of nursing are effort nursing students to use critical thinking by teaching them in critical analysis, problem solving, nursing process and researching. Critical thinking for nurses in clinics depend on pattern of nursing activities, nurses who do complex and sophisticated practice situations have to concern about critical thinking more than nurses who do superficial and meaningless activities. The quality of nursing documentation is very important for nurses because it shows the rational and critical thinking behind clinical decision and intervention of nursing
