Risk Behaviors of Sexually Transmitted Diseases among Adolescents in Mueang Samut Songkhram District, Samut Songkhram Province

This survey research aimed to study risk behaviors of sexually transmitted diseases among adolescents in Mueang Samut Songkhram district, Samut Songkhram province. The samples were 332 adolescents. Data were collected by using questionnaires related to factors associated with risk behaviors of sexually transmitted diseases among adolescents which had the content validity about .845 and also had reliabilities of attitude and risk behaviors about .752 and .717 respectively. Data were analyzed by descriptive statistics including frequency and percentage, as well as Chi-Square test. The results found that:
1. There were 88.6 percent of the samples had risk behaviors of sexually transmitted diseases; and
2. Factors linked to gender and experiences of having sex had significant association with risk behaviors of sexually transmitted diseases with p-value at 0.001 and 0.01 respectively, while age, family income, staying, having boyfriends or girlfriends, knowledge and attitude about sexually transmitted diseases had no association.
Problem-solving about sexually transmitted diseases among young people should be harmonized with current situation in terms of providing health education, campaign or consultation for delaying having sex in adolescents. In addition, having no blame for adolescents who had sex before and giving proper advices linked to having safe sex and the places for receiving the services about sexual problems should be concerned.
