This qualitative research aimed to investigate an essential competency of elderly care worker, and to examine an opinion among stakeholder related to a competency model for elderly care worker. Participants were 5 person who related with elderly care and 10 elderly care worker. The data were analyzed using content analysis.
The research finding revealed that the essential competencies components of elderly care worker was composed of three components: the first components was the core competency component of elderly care worker was human care comprised of 1.1 role and ethical values of elderly caregiver and 1.2 activities to promote a desire characteristic of elderly care worker. The second component was the managerial competencies comprised of 2.1 planning an appropriate environment and managing household for elderly, 2.2 essential technology for elderly care, 2.3 record and report and 2.4 case study. The third component was the functional competencies comprised of excretion assistance to the elderly 3.2 food assistance for the elderly, 3.3 mobility for elderly, 3.4 emergency care and referral, 3.5 special care for elderly, 3.6 brain exercise and activities for release stress, 3.7 Thai massage, and oral rehabilitation.
The results of research finding revealed that to develop the competency for elderly care worker should comprised of 3 components. It can be used efficient and appropriate care for elderly people.
