Predicting Factors of Maternal Role in Promoting Child Development Aged 0 – 2 Years Who Receiving Care at Well–child Clinics in Ratchaburi Province

Abstract

            This descriptive cross-sectional research aimed to analyze predicting factors of the maternal roles in children aged 0 - 2 years development among mothers who came to receive care at Well-Child Clinics of hospitals in Ratchaburi province. The PRECEDE-PROCEED model was applied as a conceptual framework in this study. With multistage random sampling, 147 mothers were randomly selected from four hospitals. Data were collected by using likert- scale questionnaires. Content validity index ranged 0.70 - 0.90 and reliability were between 0.64 - 0.76. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, chi-square test, and binary logistic regression analysis.
            The findings showed that most mothers had a high practice of maternal roles in a child development promotion, and the factors predicting the practice of maternal roles in a child development promotion of children aged 0 - 2 years were mothers’ educational level (OR_adj = 10.93, p = .013), having knowledge of a child development and a high-level child development promotion (OR_adj = 8.56, p = .018) and receiving a Development Surveillance and Promotion Manual or Development Assessment for Intervention Manual (OR_adj = 6.16, p = .001). It is recommended was that nurse practitioners should provide child development education and promote using Development Assessment for Intervention Manual when mothers come to receive care at well-child clinics.
