Relationships between Life Long Learning, Job Characteristics and Job Performance among Professional Nurses in a Regional Hospital in Chonburi Province

Abstract

           The objectives of this descriptive correlational study were to examine job performance and the relationships between lifelong learning, job characteristics and job performance among professional nurses in Regional hospital at Chonburi province. A sample of 266 professional nurses were selected by using simple random technique. The research instruments consisted of four questionnaires including questionnaire of personal characteristics, job performance, job characteristics and lifelong learning. The content validity and reliability of all research questionnaires were reviewed by the panel of experts, Cronbach alpha coeffciecy were 0.89, 0.89, and 0.86, respectively. Data were analyzed using descriptive and Pearson correlation statistic.    


            The results indicated that:


  1. The overall mean score on job performance of professional nurses were at good level (= 3.87, SD = 0.56). Considering with sub-dimensions, all were at good level, especially, the mean score of leadership dimension were highest (= 3.99, SD = 0.47), whereas the mean score of teaching patients and relatives dimension were lowest (= 3.80, SD = 0.40).

  2. Job characteristics and lifelong learning were moderate positively associated with job performance (r = .65, .50, respectively).

             The findings suggested that administrators should focus on promoting the lifelong learning and job characteristics of professional nurses, to increase nurses’ job performance.
