Development of Promotion of Rational Drug use in the Community in Na Yia Subdistrict Health Promotion Hospital, Na Yia District, Ubon Ratchathani Province

Abstract

Purposes: To develop the promotion of rational drug use in the community at Na Yia Subdistrict Health Promoting Hospital, Na Yia District, Ubon Ratchathani Province.

Study design: Practical Action Research.

Materials and Methods: This research was divided into 2 phases: 1) preparation phase and 2) implementation phase to promote rational drug use. Data were collected using a developed data collection form. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, comparing the results before and after development and content analysis.

Main findings: The promotion of rational drug use in the community at Na Yia Sub-district Health Promoting Hospital, Na Yia District, Ubon Ratchathani Province, has a high level of knowledge, understanding, and skills in promoting rational drug use after the development. This is because the staff of the sub-district health promotion hospital and village health volunteers emphasized the content of knowledge, understanding, and skills in the correct rational drug use. This resulted in increased knowledge, understanding, and skills in the rational drug use. The average score of knowledge, understanding, and skills in promoting rational drug use after the development increased. The results of the comparison of the differences in knowledge and understanding scores before and after the development were statistically significant at the 0.01 level. The development of the promotion of rational drug use in the community at Na Yia Sub-district Health Promoting Hospital resulted in increased knowledge for the project participants.

Conclusion and recommendations: Promoting the rational use of drugs in the community at Na Yia Subdistrict Health Promoting Hospital, Na Yia District, Ubon Ratchathani Province, must be developed to cover all levels from the hospital level to the community level. Development of all sectors will result in more efficient operations, directly resulting in more appropriate use of drugs and indirectly resulting in reduced drug costs and a reduction in drug resistance.
