Development of Practice Guideline for Prevention of Birth Asphyxia in Kaset Wisai Hospital Kaset Wisai District, Roi-Et Province

Abstract

Purposes: To develop and effectiveness of practice guideline for prevention of  birth asphyxia in  Kaset Wisai Hospital  Kaset Wisai District, Roi-Et Province

Design: Research and Development Research

Material and Methods:  The study was conducted from May to August 2019 at Kaset Wisai Hospital 

Kaset Wisai  district, Roi-Et province. The purposive sampling method were used to select samples of 8 registered nurses and 70 pregnants women who got labour and birth at Kaset Wisai Hospital. The instruments for data collection  were forms of prevention of hypoxia in newborns, for the delivery room nurse by using the conceptual framework of  the Iowa 5-Steps model, which were:  1) considering the clinical problem, 2) problem with organization, want to change it. 3) search and review the literature, 4) identify the expected result, and 5) carry out development and evaluation. Data collection consisted of daily performance evaluation form with reliability. The analysis were done by Cronbach’s alpha coefficient of 0.89 and the satisfaction questionnaire. Data were analyzed by means of frequency distribution, mean, and percentage.

Main finding: From the implementation of 70 hypoxiaes prevention patterns in newborns, 93.3% compliance with preventive measures and 14.3 per thousand live birth deficit rates, and satisfaction of the practitioners regarding the forms of oxygen deficiency in newborns moderate to high level.

Conclusion and Commendations: this study show that practice guidelines for prevention of hypoxia in newborns are based on empirical evidence. Resulting in a good prevention of hypoxia in newborns and without complications occurring therefore, the practice guideline should be used continuously to prevent hypoxia in newborns and apply to other departments in the future.
