A Model for Managing the Problems Caused by Non-safety Use of Medication in the Community

Abstract

Purposes : To study the problem situation and develop a management model needs and study the results of  problems caused by non-safety use of medication in the community.

Study design : Research and development.

Materials and Methods : Shop operators, citizens, local leaders, village health volunteers, shops, minimarts, markets, and animal feed stores and household representatives were sample groups. We were conducted research begins with studying the problem situation and needs, developing a model for managing the problem of non-safe drug use in the community, Using the model to check its effectiveness, and evaluation improve and confirm the model. Development has been underway since October, 2018–November 2020. Data were collected using field notes. Knowledge data recording form and Google form. Data were analyzed using frequency, percentage, mean, standard deviation, and % differences.

Main findings : (1) Found problems were use of antibiotics, dangerous drugs, and steroids in households, temples, schools, and sale of medicine sets, dangerous drugs, and other prohibited drugs in stores. The model for managing a problem of non-safe drug use in  community was implemented as a "3-step ladder" driven by development, media and process innovation "MELT model”, and (3) Development results found that a set of medicines containing steroids, dangerous drugs, and other prohibited drugs. There were a decreasing trend, accounting for 185.97%, 187.09% and 150.28%, respectively; Antibiotics, NSAIDs, and steroids in households, temples, and schools purchased from stores. There is a trend of decreasing every year, accounting for 117.93%, 89.30%, 56.03%, 38.11% and 24.31%, respectively; adverse reactions found from purchasing medicines dangerous drugs from stores, minimarts, and markets tend to decrease every year, accounting for 66.63%, 53.35%, 40.47%, 32.40%, and 27.83%, respectively; the mean scores of knowledge about non-safe drug use in community of shop operators, households, monks, and students increased by 33.11%.

Conclusion and recommendations : The results of this research indicate that the problem solving framework developed by researcher had resulted in a reduction in problem of non-safe drug use in community. Therefore, relevant agencies should apply the model in theirs area.
