Factors Associated with Self-Care Behaviors of Patients with Acute Coronary Syndrome at Queen Sirikit Heart Center of the Northeast

This descriptive correlational study aimed to investigate the factors associated with the self-care behaviors of patients diagnosed with Acute Coronary Syndrome (ACS) The study sample consisted of 123 patients receiving treatment at the Queen Sirikit Heart Center of the Northeast, selected through purposive sampling based on predefined inclusion criteria. The research instrumentation comprised a Demographic Profile Questionnaire, the Health Belief Model Scale, the Social Support Scale, the Health Literacy Scale, and a Self-Care Behavior Questionnaire. Content validity was rigorously established (CVI = 0.96–1.00), and internal consistency demonstrated high reliability (Cronbach’s Alpha = 0.70–0.86). Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics and Spearman’s rank correlation coefficient (rs), with the statistical significance threshold set at p < 0.05.
The findings indicated that gender, social support, health beliefs, and health literacy were significantly and positively correlated with self-care behaviors (p < 0.05), with correlation coefficients (rs) of .270, .515, .541, and .218, respectively. Conversely, depression exhibited a significant negative correlation with self-care behaviors (rs = -0.529, p < 0.05).
Healthcare professionals should prioritize the development of health promotion models that integrate health belief concepts with the enhancement of health literacy. Furthermore, fostering family participation to strengthen social support is essential. Implementing these strategies will be instrumental in reducing complications and significantly improving the quality of life for patients with acute myocardial infarction.
