Abstract

This quasi-experimental pre- and post-test study aimed to investigate the effect of aerobic dance exercise using a Pha Khao Ma on body energy expenditure in late adolescents. The sample consisted of 30 late adolescents from a nursing college, selected specifically based on their willingness to participate. The research was conducted in October 2025. The participants performed aerobic dance exercise using a Pha Khao Ma to music for 4 weeks, 3 days a week, 30 minutes a day. The research instruments were a body energy expenditure monitor and a satisfaction assessment questionnaire with a Cronbach's alpha coefficient of 0.87. Data was analyzed using descriptive statistics and paired t-tests.

The results showed that after using the aerobic dance exercise program with a Pha Khao Ma, the average body energy expenditure (M = 220.40, SD = 116.14) was higher than before using the program (M = 194.10, SD = 98.90), a difference of 26.30 kilocalories per hour. The average body energy expenditure of the sample group was significantly higher after using the exercise program than before, at the 0.05 statistical significance level. Furthermore, the sample group expressed the highest level of satisfaction with the aerobic dance exercise program using a Pha Khao Ma (M = 4.60, SD = 0.54). In conclusion, aerobic dance exercise using a traditional Thai sarong can help increase body energy expenditure to an optimal level, and the sample group showed a high level of satisfaction, reflecting the potential of this activity to promote sustainable health and exercise among late adolescents.
