The results of a sexual education and life skills literacy development program for adolescents on sexual education and life skills literacy in prevent the problem of unwanted pregnancy among secondary school students in KhonKaen Province

Abstract

  This quasi-experimental research aimed to examine the effects of a program designed to enhance sexual health literacy and life skills among adolescents on their sexual health literacy and life skills for preventing unintended pregnancy among secondary school students in Khon Kaen Province. The sample consisted of two groups, with 80 students in each group. The experimental group received a program to build sexuality education and life skills for teenagers. The program included five learning activity stations, and after the 8-week training period, communication was continued through a LINE group, delivering five topics per week on sexual health education and life skills via infographics. Data were collected using questionnaires and analyzed using descriptive statistics, including percentages, means, and standard deviations. The level of statistical significance was set at 0.05.

  The results revealed that after the intervention, the experimental group had significantly higher mean scores in sexual health literacy and life skills compared with their pre-intervention scores. (pre-test: sexual health literacy 𝑥̄ = 4.06, life skills 𝑥̄ = 4.11; post-test: sexual health literacy 𝑥̄ = 4.34, life skills 𝑥̄ = 4.27)  and those of the comparison group. (post-test: sexual health literacy 𝑥̄ = 4.15, life skills 𝑥̄ = 4.11) Regarding specific dimensions of sexual health literacy, the experimental group demonstrated the highest mean score in access to information and the lowest in inquiry skills. For life skills, the highest mean score was found in emotional management skills. These findings indicate that the sexual health literacy and life skills enhancement program is effective and can appropriately prevent sexual risk behaviors and unintended pregnancy among adolescents.
