The objectives of this study were to develop and examine the effectiveness of a simulation-based learning and digital media model to enhance SBAR communication skills among assistant nurse students at Boromarajonani College of Nursing, Khon Kaen; to compare the SBAR communication skills of students before and after participating in the simulation-based and digital media learning activities; and to investigate the students’ satisfaction with the model. This study employed a quasi-experimental one-group pretest–posttest design. The sample consisted of 104 assistant nurse students from Boromarajonani College of Nursing, Khon Kaen.
The research instruments included an SBAR communication skills assessment form, an efficiency evaluation form (E1/E2), a satisfaction questionnaire, and students’ reflective journals. The results indicated that the developed learning model achieved an efficiency score of E1/E2 = 83.60/86.93, which exceeded the standard criterion of 80/80 (ONESQA, 2000). The mean posttest SBAR communication score was significantly higher than the pretest score at the .001 level (pretest = 66.41, posttest = 85.95). Overall student satisfaction with the learning model was at the “highest” level (𝑥̄ = 4.65, SD = 0.47). Qualitative findings from the reflective journals revealed positive changes in students’ knowledge, confidence, and communication skills.
The results suggest that the simulation-based learning and digital media model is highly effective in enhancing SBAR communication skills among assistant nurse students. Additionally, it promotes greater confidence and yields high levels of learner satisfaction.
