The Development of Elderly Oral health Care Model with Community Network in Kae Village, Non Sila Sub-District, Sahatsakhan District, Kalasin Provice

Abstract

This action research aimed to study the results of the development of an oral health care model for the elderly in collaboration with the community network in Kae village, Nonsila sub-district, Sahatsakhan district, Kalasin province. The target group consisted of 61 elderly individuals and 26 individuals involved in the oral care model for the elderly in the area. Data were collected using questionnaires, an oral health examination recording form, interview form, group discussion recording form, observation form, and follow-up supervision form. Quantitative data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, and content analysis was performed for qualitative data. The results of the study revealed that the development of the oral health care model for the elderly in collaboration with the community network employed the PAOR process, comprising six steps: 1) context-based study and analysis of the problems, 2) holding a workshop, 3) participatory planning activities, 4) action, 5) supervision, and 6) evaluation, conclusions, and suggestions. Post-development operational results indicated a significant increase in the elderly population's knowledge and practice of oral health care (p-value<0.001). Additionally, there was a statistically significant increase in participation among those involved in the oral health care model for the elderly (p-value<0.001). A crucial success factor in implementing the oral health care model for the elderly through community networks is the collaboration of network partners. Receiving cooperation and support from all sectors will facilitate the development of a long-term and continuous oral health care model for the elderly. Particularly noteworthy are village health volunteers, who serve as primary leaders in conducting proactive activities in close collaboration with the team and network partners in the area.
