The Evaluation of Development of Elderly Health Promotion Leaders Program through 4 SMART Principles based on Local Wisdom; Case Study of Bak Dai Subdistrict, Phanom Dong Rak District, Surin Province

Abstract

This study is Quasi-experimental research design on one-group pretest-posttest design, which aimed to compare scores of knowledge and practical skills of the 4 SMART core leaders before and after participating in the 4 SMART core development program based on local wisdom. The study samples were in the group of 40 elderly health promotion volunteers who have been lived in the area of Bak Dai Subdistrict, Phanom Dong Rak District, Surin Province. The research tools used for data collection were questionnaires. Statistical data were analyzed by using average, standard deviation. Then compare means within group before and after joining the program by using Paired sample t-test. The results found that most of them were 34 females (85.0%), average age 43.26 years old, lowest age 21 years old and highest age 59 years old. Most of them were married, 21 persons (52.5%), and most of them completed high school education, 22 persons. (55.0%) and most of them are farmers, 23 persons (57.5%). When compared the knowledge scores and practical skills scores among volunteers for elderly health promotion leaders program through 4 SMART principles based on local wisdom, it was found that the average score was significantly higher than before participating in the program at the 0.05 level (t = 5.664, p-value = 0.000 and t = 10.420, p-value = 0.000, respectively). These can be shown that the 4 SMART core development program based on local wisdom; Case study of Bak Dai Subdistrict, Phanom Dong Rak District, Surin Province, increase both knowledge and practical skills. It could be a guideline for applying in other areas.
