THE EFFECTIVENCESS OF ANTENATAL EDUCATION PROGRAM VIA SOCIAL MEDIA ON PRIMIGRAVIDA, HEALTH PROMOTING HOSPITAL HPC 7 KHONKAEN
Abstract
Background: The antenatal education during antenatal care is the way to promote health for pregnant women. The traditional method of training is by in-person attendance of a class. This study of the efficacy of “pushing” antenatal education to pregnant women online via widely used social media technologies. Materials and Methods: This study was a quasi-experimental study with aims to examine the effectiveness of Antenatal Education Program via Social Media on Primigravida women in Antenatal clinic. The study samples consist of 100 primigravida women who were selected according to the inclusion criteria and divided into 2 groups by random sampling. The control group (n = 50) received antenatal education via routine in-clinic program, while the experimental group (n = 50) received antenatal education via an online program from the researcher. Data were collected by self-administered questionnaires which included knowledge, stress during pregnancy and health behavior outcome before and after the program. Data were analyzed by using the descriptive statistic, Independent t-test, Pair t-test, and Mann-Whitney U Test. Results: The results revealed that after participating in the program the scores of knowledge were higher and the scores of stress during pregnancy were significantly lower [p<0.001]. There were no significant differences between the groups in scores of knowledge and stress during pregnancy after the intervention [p=.385 and .191]. Health behavior outcomes such as hematocrit level were lower than before attending the program, and teeth brushing behavior was most corrected [88% and 92%]. The Pregnant nutrition graph for pregnant woman was acceptable [76% and 72%]. Conclusion: The antenatal education online program can help to improve knowledge and reduce stress during pregnancy. It offers more convenience, ease of access, and can be utilized using technology and applications already possessed and used by most people.
