Correlation between Knowledge, Beliefs, and Attitudes towards Basic Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation among Village Health Volunteers in Nakhon Phanom Province

Abstract

This study aimed to assess the levels of knowledge, beliefs, and attitudes regarding basic cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and analyze the correlation between knowledge, beliefs, and attitudes in village health volunteers in Nakhon Phanom Province. A descriptive cross-sectional study was conducted with 344 village health volunteers from April to June 2025. Data collection utilized a self-developed questionnaire based on the Health Belief Model framework (CVI = 1.00, IOC = 0.835), covering general demographic information, CPR knowledge (20 items), training experience, attitudes (10 items), and beliefs (10 items). Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics and Spearman's correlation coefficient with statistical significance set at p < .05. The majority of volunteers demonstrated moderate levels of knowledge, beliefs, and attitudes, accounting for 52.90%, 46.50%, and 76.20%, respectively, with median scores of 12, 13, and 14 points, respectively. Correlation analysis revealed that beliefs had a significant low positive correlation with attitudes (r = 0.174, p < .01) and a significant low positive correlation with knowledge (r = 0.234, p < .001). Health beliefs emerged as the most crucial factor in promoting knowledge and fostering positive attitudes toward CPR among village health volunteers. Capacity development programs for volunteers should prioritize building confidence in CPR effectiveness as a starting point.
