Abstract

Abstract: 

These mixed methods research aimed to examine health and social situations of persons with dementia, their caregivers, and their families as well as to study attitudes, dimensions of care, and supporting factors from viewpoints of health, social,  and community personnel. Also, a health and social protection system for dementia in rural community contexts had been synthesized in this study. Sample consists of 110 dementia patients; 110 caregivers; and 114 health, social, and community personnel in the area of the development of a comprehensive care system for older persons with dementia. Data were collected using questionnaires and focus group discussion questions. Data analysis was conducted using descriptive statistics and content analysis.

Findings revealed that persons with dementia are more females than males and had average age of 81.25 years. Alzheimer's dementia is the most common diagnosis. Persons with dementia and their caregivers were not aware of their rights and welfare benefits. Health and social personnel suggested that care for persons with dementia need cooperation from all sectors. The form of health and social protection systems for persons with dementia in rural communities should be system that covers both health and social services in order for persons with dementia to access services that were effective. Caregivers and families were properly supported.
