This mixed methods research aimed to study 1) the healthcare needs of undergraduate students; 2) the current state of healthcare services for undergraduate students, and 3) appropriate health care guidelines for undergraduates at Rajanagarindra Rajabhat University. The quantitative sample consisted of 293 undergraduates and the key informants for qualitative data were 10 student affairs officials at the university. The research instrument was a questionnaire consisting of 2 sections: (1) personal information and (2) healthcare demands among students, which had a Cronbach's alpha coefficient of .90, and a Semi-structured interview form for qualitative data collection.. The statistics used for data analysis included means and standard deviations for the quantitative data and content analysis for the qualitative data.
The results found that: 1) the students’ healthcare demands were at a high level; 2) the university promoted and encouraged student activities for both physical and mental health; and 3) healthcare guidelines for students would be beneficial. An appropriate health care program for students should include health promotion training courses that they can apply to issues they face in their daily lives, such as food and nutrition, smoking prevention, stress management, exercise, sexual behavior, and accidents and safety. Problems in student health care services were classified into three categories: budgetary, personnel/students, and nvironment/support. Results indicate that appropriate health care guidelines for students should be developed to promote student engagement in seven areas: exercise, food and nutrition, stress management, smoking, travel safety, sexual behavior, and student potential development.
