Abstract

Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) is a chronic respiratory condition with an increasing number of patients and rising mortality rates every year. The disease also incurs high healthcare costs. COPD is characterized by chronic respiratory abnormalities, combining two main conditions: chronic bronchitis and emphysema. Patients often exhibit symptoms such as coughing with phlegm, difficulty breathing, and acute exacerbations, particularly among the elderly. Caring for these patients can be complex and challenging, requiring nurses to have specialized expertise. Nurses must provide comprehensive assessments and health education including eight of knowledge and skills necessary to prevent and manage acute exacerbations and breathing difficulties during the stable phase of care. These interventions aim to reduce the occurrence of acute exacerbations, reduce hospital readmissions within 28 days, reduce intubation rates, reduce mortality, and decrease treatment costs. And good progression in COPD patients.
