Abstract

A descriptive cross-sectional study was conducted to investigate factors related to blood sugar control in patients with type 2 diabetes. The sample consisted of 162 type 2 diabetes patients at Pathumwitthayakhom Health Service Center in Mueang District, Ubon Ratchathani Province. Data collection instruments included:            1) a health data record form extracting clinical information from medical records including disease duration, treatment history, comorbidities, body mass index (BMI), and prescribed medications , and 2) a structured interview form assessing personal characteristics and health behaviors, which demonstrated strong content validity (IOC = 0.99) and internal consistency reliability (Kuder-Richadson Method: KR-20 = 0.84). Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics (frequencies, percentages, means, and standard deviations) and chi-squares, and binary logistic regression tests to examine the relationships between variables. Statistical significance was set at p< 0.05.

The results found that body mass index, presence of comorbidities, number of medications, exercise habits, dietary control, medication adherence, and compliance with dietary recommendations were statistically significantly related to blood sugar control in patients with type 2 diabetes. (p < .05). These findings suggest that healthcare professionals should develop targeted interventions to improve glycemic control among type 2 diabetes patients, with particular emphasis on promoting health behaviors related to exercise, diet, and medication adherence. Additionally, educational programs and counseling approaches should be designed to accommodate patients' learning styles and facilitate practical application of diabetes self-management strategies.
