Global Standards in Nursing Education: Teaching Excellence through Professional Frameworks
Keywords:
nursing education, professional standards frameworks, higher educationAbstract
Nursing education, like other fields in higher disciplines, is engaged in paradigm shift to the Science of Learning (SoL) that focuses on excellence in teaching to meet the demands of evolving healthcare systems. Professional standards frameworks, such as the UK Professional Standards Framework (UKPSF), Australia’s Higher Education Standards Framework (AHESF), and Thailand Professional Standards Framework (THPSF), provide structured pathways by which nursing educators can achieve quality teaching based on reflective practice, professional development, and interdisciplinary collaboration. Moreover, this article presents the evolution of these frameworks in nursing education globally, comparing regional variations and their impact on both teaching and clinical learning outcomes. It describes how these frameworks encourage the adoption of student-centered pedagogies and foster a holistic approach to education by emphasizing inclusivity, ethical practice, and evidence-based teaching.
Additionally, the article addresses the challenges specific to nursing education in implementing these frameworks, such as resource limitations, cultural resistance, and the rapid integration of healthcare technologies into curricula. It highlights opportunities for innovation, particularly through technology-enhanced learning. It also discusses the future direction of professional standards in nursing education, particularly in relation to online learning and the integration of artificial intelligence (AI) in healthcare training. The continuous adaptation of these frameworks is essential for ensuring that nursing educators are equipped to provide high-quality education for nursing students.
