Abstract

This was a quasi-experimental, one-group pretest-posttest design study aimed to investigate the effect of using the " Rug Jai Khun, Love your heart application" on the self-care behavior, illness perception of heart failure, quality of life and re-admission rate of congestive heart failure patients. The participants in the study were 32 patients selected using simple random sampling technique. The research instruments consisted of the "Rug Jai Khun” application as an interventional program and data collection tools comprised of a demographic data form, the Self-care of Heart Failure Index (SCHFI), the Illness Perception of Heart Failure Questionnaire, a quality of life assessment, and the participants’ records of readmission. The last three research tools had a content validity of 0.95, 0.70 and 0.94, respectively, and Cronbach alpha coefficients of 0.85, 0.97 and 0.82, respectively. Descriptive statistics and Paired T-tests were used to analyze the data.

The results of this study found that the patients that used the “Rug Jai Khun” application showed significantly higher levels of self-care behavior among patients with congestive heart failure, illness perception and quality of life. Moreover, their re-admission rate was reduced at a statistically significant level (p<.001). This study demonstrates that self-care behavior promotion programs using the "Love Your Heart (Rug Jai Khun) application” mobile app should be employed with patients with congestive heart failure to increase the quality of care for this group of patients.
