The Development of Participatory Clinical Supervision Model in Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya Hospital

Abstract

Clinical supervision makes an important contribution to high quality patient care and professional wellbeing for the allied health workforce. Especially, participatory clinical supervision had an effect on knowledge development and nursing practice. The purpose of this quasi-experimental study research was to test the effectiveness of the development of participative clinical supervision model in Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya Hospital. A sample of 43 registered nurses was recruited by purposive sampling. The development of participative clinical supervision model was developed based on Proctor’s clinical supervision model and participatory management of Sashkin. Data were collected on the second and fourth weeks after the completion of the participative clinical supervision program. The research instruments consisted of: the participative clinical supervision model, core-competency scale, specific functional competency test and satisfaction questionnaire. The quality of the research instruments was assessed by performing a preliminary trial with 30 registered nurses with characteristics similar to the sample to determine the reliability the Cronbach’s alpha coefficients of the core-competency scale, specific functional competency test and satisfaction questionnaire, which were .90, .87 and .78, respectively. Data were analyzed using descriptive statisitcs and One-Way Repeated Measures ANOVA statistics.

            The results revealed that the participatory clinical supervision model consisted; 1) participatory clinical supervision model handbook 2) clinical supervision for specific functional competency. A clarifies of operating processes of clinical supervision model effect of core-competency and specific functional competency in registered nurses were improved significantly after the participative clinical supervision model finished and there was a moderate level for satisfaction with the development of participative clinical supervision model. This study suggested that, the positive perception would improve nursing knowledge and promoted nursing skills beyond to effectiveness nursing care process
