The relationships between Personal Factors and Knowledge and the Behavior of Older Persons regarding Self-care Prevention from Novel Coronavirus 2019 in Ubonratchathani Province

The purpose of this descriptive correlational research was to study the relationships between the personal factors, knowledge and behaviors of older persons regarding self-care prevention from the Novel Coronavirus 2019 in Ubonratchathani Province. The participants were 380 older persons selected by multi-stage sampling. Data were collected during May and June 2021. The three research questionnaires consisted of the participants’ 1) Personal Factors: demographic data sheet, 2) the Knowledge about Novel Coronavirus 2019 questionnaire, and 3) the Novel Coronavirus 2019 Preventive Behaviors questionnaire. Reliability of the second and the third questionnaires were 0.80 and 0.86, respectively. The data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, Chi-square tests, and Pearson product moment correlations. The research findings were as follows.
Most of the older persons had a high level of knowledge about Novel Coronavirus 2019 (M=16.36, SD=.885). The preventative behaviors of older persons regarding self-care prevention from Novel Coronavirus 2019 was at a high level (M=2.80, SD=.257). There were statistically significant relationships between personal factors, such as marital status, occupation, and information sources, and the participants’ novel coronavirus 2019 preventive behaviors (𝑥2=100.22, 110.79, and 157.89, respectively, p≤.05). COVID-19 knowledge had a statistically significant moderate positive relationship with novel coronavirus 2019 preventive behaviors amng the participants (r= .585, p≤.01).
