Abstract

The aims of this descriptive research were to explore the retention of the characteristics of creative citizenship of nursing alumni who graduated from Boromarajonani College of Nursing, Khon Kaen (BCNKK) in the 2016 and 2017 academic years. There were 520 participants totally in this study with a ratio of graduates to supervisors and coworkers of 1:1:1.  Participants included BCNKK nursing alumni graduating in 2016 and 2017 and their supervisors and colleagues. A multi-stage sampling strategy was used to recruit participants working at regional, general, community, and sub-district health promotion hospitals in Khon Kaen, Nong Bua Lam Phu, Chaiyaphum, and Sakon Nakhon provinces. Data were collected  from July 2019 to July 2020 using questionnaires with open-ended questions. Descriptive statistics and content analysis were utilized to analyze data. The results of this study revealed that, overall, the average scores for the characteristics of creative citizenship were high among this cohort of graduates (Mean = 4.29, S.D. =0.55). With regard to each dimension, the average score for the characteristic of honesty was the highest (Mean = 4.57, S.D. = 0.50), followed by the characteristics of conscious loving, sacrifice, and volunteering. The characteristics with the lowest average scores were innovation creativity (Mean = 3.90, S.D. = 0.75) and systematic thinking and creative problem solving (Mean = 3.98, S.D. = 0.73). The participants’ most outstanding characteristics were responsibility, humanized service mind, volunteerism, and curiosity for continuous learning. This research’s findings reflect that the BCNKK integrated education management program using the virtual family system in the development of graduates can instill the characteristics of creative citizenship in our BCNKK nursing graduates and that these characteristics will continue to be a part of them after their graduation.
