Standard of Care for patients with Sepsis Syndrome

Abstract

The care for patients with sepsis syndrome at the emergency department of Suddhavej hospital was based on the clinical practice guideline (CPG) created since 2017 by the internists. This CPG cover the details of nursing care by nurses. The purpose of this study was to evaluate whether the care for patients with sepsis syndrome was in accordance with the CPG of Suddhavej hospital. This is a retrospective study collecting data of the fiscal year 2020 from medical records of 54 patients diagnosed with sepsis at the emergency department.

The findings indicated that the topic of Early Recognize (within 0 hours) was the best outcome (96.2% of the nurses practiced) in terms of evaluation for standard of care for patients with sepsis syndrome. The second best outcome was the topic of general nursing standard in standard of care for patients with sepsis that was 88.8% compliance. The topic of Early Resuscitate (3 hours) showed the lowest compliance that was 57.4% practice, especially in the subtopic of the goal for no more than 2 hours of the emergency department waiting time for admission. Furthermore, the rate of medical records by nurses was 98.1% According to the compliance results following the CPG for sepsis syndrome of Suddhavej hospital, the researcher suggested that we should have the clinical nursing practice guidelines (CNPG) of the emergency department to use in conjunction with the previous CPG for caring of patients with sepsis syndrome. Consequently, the patients will receive the greatest benefits in patient care process.
