Effects of a Community Participation Program on the Health Behavior Promotion of Older People with Hypertension in Bang Pakong District, Chachoengsao Province

Abstract

This research is a quasi-experimental research. The objective of this research was to study the effect of a community participation program on the health behavior promotion of older people with hypertension in Bang Pakong District, Chachoengsao province. The sample group qualified according to the specified criteria. A total of 70 people were equally divided into the experimental group and the control group, each consisted of 35 people. The two groups were matched to be similar in terms of gender, age and occupation. The control group received routine nursing care, whereas, the experimental group received a community participation program on the health behavior promotion of older people with progressive hypertension between February-April 2021. The instrument was the health promotion behaviors of older people with hypertension with Cronbach’s confidence as .87. Data were analyzed using percentage, mean, standard deviation, paired T-test and independent T-test.

The finding revealed that after attending the program, the experimental group had a higher mean score on health promotion behaviors of older people with hypertension than before participating in the program and the experimental group also had statistically significantly higher mean score on health promotion behaviors of older people with hypertension after attending the program than the control group, p-value less than .05. Long-term follow-up of outcomes should be conducted to guide to improve the effective health behavior promotion program development.
