Community-Based Treatment and Care (CBTx): A Case Study of the Communities in Khon Kaen Province

Abstract

This qualitative research study aimed to: assess process for community-based treatment and care (CBTx) in the Khon Kaen Province. We conducted 35 key informant interviews with 8 community leaders, 12 community staff’s members, 12 health volunteers, and 3 registered nurses. We reviewed related documents, in-depth Interview, and data from focus group discussions. We analyzed the qualitative data using content analysis and thematic analysis.

          The study area was a rural community. Almost all people in the community employed. We found that youth population used volatile substances mostly. The important principles in the CBTx process:                       1) Self-awareness established in the district, 2) Finding a volunteer area as a target area shows the area's awareness of the problem and participation. Finding the volunteer area as a target because they were aware of the problem and participation, 3) Organize civil society forum, 4) transformative learning established,               5) Therapy, Empower and monitoring: apply the integrate principle, community to be the owner and government as a mentor. We found after participating in the CBTx program, 12 case (85.71%) of drug users stopped drug use for 3 months and drug-related cases have declined.

          In this case study in Khon Kaen, community-based drug treatment involved the cooperation of the network partners. The program sought to make former drug users feel like they belonged. At the same time, the program encouraged the community to connect with other dimensions in society and try to integrate development.
