Nurse Practitioner’s Roles in Prescribing Herbal Medicine for Primary Medical Care: Applying in the Nursing Process

The Ministry of Public Health launched a policy to promote the use of Thai herbal medicines and encouraging doctors and nurse practitioners to increase the use of Thai herbal medicines in the health care system at all levels. This policy will encourage self-reliance and secure the drug system in Thailand. It also reduces the import of conventional medicine. In primary health care units, the nurse practitioners play an important role in prescribing medicines for primary medical care and need to prescribe more herbal medicine in response to the Ministry of Public Health’s policy. This article aims to compile the list of herbal medicine according to the criteria of the Thai Nursing and Midwifery Council and implement the nursing process, including health assessment, nursing diagnosis, nursing plan, implementation, and evaluation. And applied for prescribing herbal medicine for primary medical care to suitable for the condition of the client's problem.
