The Effectiveness of Community Participation in Preventing and Controlling Dengue Hemorrhagic Fever at Chieangpin village,Chieangpin Sub-District, Mueang District, Udonthani

Abstract

           This action research aimed to examine the effectiveness of using community nursing process to promote community participation on prevention and control of Dengue Hemorrhagic Fever in Cheangpin village, Cheangpin Sub-District, Mueang  District, Udonthani Province. The participants were 143 of community leaders, village committees, local government, district health volunteers, health personnel, education network and householders.  Data was collected both qualitatively and quantitatively technique such as interviewing   questionnaires, test, the larva survey form, focus group and participant observing from  June to September 2019. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics and content analysis

             The results showed:  the learning process divided into 4 phases, first phase, community assessment and analysis of the problems found  the main caused of having Dengue Larva in community was the improper management of households. Second Phase, community leaders meeting and planning, they suggested 3 preventing activities, training, the larva survey, household and community development. Third phase, implementation of the activities and forth phase, evaluation of the process and effectiveness on prevention and control of disease. The comparison between before and after implementation found health education had increases household knowledge from 62.5% to 93.33%. Larvae indices were reduced from 32.18 to 3.33 and according to the standard of the Ministry of Health. The rate of Dengue Hemorrhagic fever decreased from 69.49 to 14.35/ 100,000 population. Key success factors revealed that the strengthen and continuously of community participation, vigorous leaders and strong supported from education network and local government were determining factors to prevent and control of Dengue Hemorrhagic Fever more effectively.
