Abstract

This correlational research aimed to study the relationships between associated factors, health literacy and medication adherence in elderly patients at a Geriatric clinic, Siriraj Hospital. The sample consisted of 265 patients. The demographic data of patients, Health literacy, and Morisky Medication Adherence Scale (MMAS) were collected by interview. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, Chi-Square and Spearman Rank correlation. The result found that the health literacy was high level (11.76±1.32) and medication adherence was a moderate level (6.92±1.24). The factors statistically significant associated a relationship with health literacy were level of education (p = 0.001) and occupation (p = 0.041), The factors statistically significant associated a relationship with medication adherence was family income (p = 0.035). However, there was no statistically significant relationship between health literacy with medication adherence in elderly patients.
