Alcohol consumption among Adolescents at a Suburb one province Northeastern Thailand

Abstract

Alcohol use is an increasing problem among adolescents. This study is part of  Development life assets to reduce alcohol use in adolescents with family and community participation thesis.  The objective to study adolescents alcohol use in the suburbs. Target groups were divided into 1) adolescents aged 10-15 years who drink alcohol, 2) parents and 3) people to take care of adolescents in the community. Research instruments were questionnaires about demographic information, Alcohol consumption assessment for adolescents (AUDIT) the reliability test with Chonbarch’s alpha coefficiency were. 929, In-depth interview and focus group. Content analysis and triangulation data audit was used for data analysis.

              The findings show that adolescents aged 10-15 years who drink alcohol in this study there was a total of 11 adolescent’s participation including 4 males (36.36%), and 7 females (63.68%). All are in junior high school. the level of alcohol consumption (AUDIT) of adolescents found that drinking alcohol was at a low-risk level of 36.36 %, high-risk level 36.36 %. adolescents drinking alcohol more revealing. Stared drinking from the age of 11 years. Factors that make adolescents alcohol use are individual, family, environment, society, culture traditions and easy access. The effect of drinking alcohol there is physical, emotional and bad behavior. Prevention of adolescents alcohol use in the community found that there are preventive actions at the family, school, community, hospital health district, and municipality. But still having separate work sections. Therefore, there should be the development of care procedures for prevention and reduced alcohol use in adolescents. By coordination and work linking of all people to take care of adolescents in the community.
