This quasi-experimental research aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of mobile application of eye cleaning lesson on nursing students’ knowledge. The sample consisted of 55 third year nursing students who were with no experience on eye cleaning. After completing the pretest on eye cleaning, they were randomly divided into two groups. The control group (N=27) learned eye cleaning by using video. The experimental group (N=28) learned by using mobile application. After the lesson, both groups of students were asked to complete the posttest, the experimental group was also completed the satisfaction questionnaire in addition.
Results showed that the mean scores’ posttest was significantly higher than that of pretest in both groups (p=0.048, 0.001). The mean scores’ posttest of experimental group was significantly higher than that of control group (p=0.046). The tests were divided into three topics of knowledge about eye cleaning regarding objectives, instruments, and procedures. For the topic of procedure, the mean score of experimental group was significantly higher than that of control group (p=0.38). There were no significantly different in the topic of objective and instruments (p=0.597, 0.075). The mean score of students’ perception on mobile application were high (x̅ = 4.46-4.62) in all topics. This could be concluded that mobile application helps nursing students improve their knowledge. Moreover, the student showed positive satisfaction on mobile application.
