Effects of case management on quality of life of caregivers and the drinking behaviors in patients with alcoholic psychosis

บทคัดย่อ

Objective The purpose of this research were to compare before and after case management in quality of life of caregivers and the drinking behaviors in patients with alcoholic psychosis.

Materials and methods Using of quasi-experimental research design, the one pretest posttest design type. Purposive sampling patients by inclusion criteria were patients with alcoholic psychosis in health service area of Suratthani Hospital and history of psychiatric illness relapse which admission or poor compliance, 8 patients and 8 purposive sampling caregivers. The instruments in trial were patients with alcoholic psychosis’s care map which used for multidisciplinary team in community for 4 months period and caregivers’ caremap. The instruments in collecting data were WHO evaluating quality of life form (Thai edition) and evaluating drinking behaviors form (AUDIT). Statistical analysis including frequency, percentage, mean, standard deviation and Wilcoxon signed rank test were used.

Results Showed that after case management caregivers had higher scores than before case management statistical signifi cantly quality of life in the overall and 3 domains: physical domain, social relationships and environment domain, but not change in psychological domain. After case management the drinking behaviors in patients with alcoholic psychosis were lower than before case management statistical signifi cantly.

Conclusion The results of this study showed that case management improves quality of life of caregivers and reduce the drinking behaviors.
