The development of mental health and psychiatric service in health areas

Objective The purpose of this study was to evaluate the implementation of mental health network in health areas.
Materials and methods The present study was done by gathering quantitative data from personnel survey, mental health service system and psychiatric drug system in health areas. We also reviewed the supervision report of the mental health service system and inspection report with focal
group discussion.
Results The implementation of mental health and psychiatric service plan has followed the steps of the guideline in developing the health service system in the fields of mental health and psychiatry, however; the results varied in each health area. Outcomes of the implementation were psychiatric outpatient service at a good level 11 health areas and needed improvement in 1 health area; and psychiatric inpatient service at a good level 1 health area and needed improvement in 4 health areas. The accessibility of individual with psychosis and depression was at a good level in 2 and 11 health areas respectively. The limitations of the development of mental health and psychiatric service system were the personnel, the psychiatric service and transfer of patients and the pharmaceutical system.
Conclusion The development of mental health and psychiatric service network was the implementation according to the development plan for health service system used as a guideline. There were 11 health areas which achieved goal for psychiatric outpatient service and 2, 11 health areas for accessibility of psychotic and depressive patients respectively.
