The developed Buddhist monks net work model in suicidal prevention program : a case study in Chiang Mai province

บทคัดย่อ

The evaluation research on the devleoped Buddist monks network model focused on suicidal prevention program held by the collaboration between the Bureau of Mental Health Technical Development, Department of Mental Health and ChiangMai distric Public Health Centre. The activities divided into 3 aspects ,i.e, work shop on education, medias propaganda by poster, radio broadcasting and 3 months- period follow-up seminar conclusion. The 2-days workshop consisted of learning class on mental health problems and suicidal intervention for people at risks. Participants were interested monks and student monks from Mahachulalongkornrajavidyalaya University. After the workshop day, health promotion activities were carried on i.e. public cut-out setting, radio broadcasting. For the evaluation process, participants were interviewed and completed questionnaires, and if possible they were invited to join the meeting at 3 months after the workshop. Results showed that most particpants could integrate the knowledge obtained from the workshop into daily activity, for example preaching and teaching. They had correct knowledge on suicidal problems and skills to intervene with them. They could apply Buddhist dharma to help people such as the Four Noble Truths, Divine Abidin , Sangaha-vatthu, Mindfulness and meditation. It was noted that they have to choose the right dharma for the right person. Moreover, this project created the Buddha Clinic operating both through telephone and direct service at the office in temples. The major operations were counseling, dharma talks, helping hill-tribe people who has mental health problems and visiting chronically ill patients at hospitals. In conclusion, this project had benefit and valuable concept for monk network in suicidal prevention program covering dharma curriculum, preaching and collaboration between organizations.
