Situation analysis on standard of psychiatric nursing practice utilization in psychiatric hospitals under department of mental health

Standard of Psychiatric Nursing Practice (SPNP) was equipment for nursing practice. Moreover, SPNP made systematic nursing practice and was the norm to evaluate nursing quality also. Psychiatric nurse should hold SPNP in nursing performance for high quality treat with psychiatric patients. This study was a descriptive research. The objectives of this research were to study situation and limitation of SPNP utilization, to evaluate nursing performance compared with SPNP, to study individual factors that related with job performance, and to know
nurse’s opinions in SPNP of psychiatric nurses in seven psychiatric hospitals under department of mental heath total 243 nurses. Samples were collected by stratified random sampling. The materials consist of 4 parts of questionnaires including individual factor, employ and limitation of SPNP utilization, nursing performance appraisal, created by
norm of SPNP, and opinion in SPNP. Percentage, means, standard diviation, t-test, One-Way ANOVA, and Post Hoc Analysis by Sheffe’ method. The results showed that 54.5% employed SPNP in daily job, 48.7% regularly used. On the contrary, 62.8% did not use SPNP because they were not forced to use it. There were 52.6% had the limitation of SPNP utilization that focused on content such as abstract content, scrupulous and out of date, and 30.7% had limitation in nursing practice. Most Psychiatric nurses did nursing practice performance at good level and did nursing with patients at excellent level. Education level and psychiatric nursing experience were significantly related with nursing performance. Besides, they suggested that SPNP should be modified and developed appropriately in order to implement in all units at currently psychiatric circumstance. It should make more clearly in nursing practices and more realistic nursing performance. Finally, they suggested that the psychiatric hospitals should have one standard for nursing performance.
